Success in 2014 with greater challenges coming:
We have proven that our tiny voice as a profession can be heard when we focus our efforts and by sometimes making an end run instead of a head on approach. Blue Cross promises to begin meetings with us during the 1st quarter to give them a better understanding of our profession; of what qualifies as quality care and who is providing that care. The goal is to elevate our status and convince them to pay us more when quality care is provided. While BCBST is a major player, we must also begin dialogue with other companies like UHC, Humana and Cigna to the same end. In addition to working toward gaining higher payments from insurance carriers as we prove our value and help them develop metrics to identify quality care, we are also ready to begin work on expanding and improving Tennessee licensure to include licensed assistants, and for the state to be given teeth to punish and stop unlicensed providers.
WE NEED YOU:
What are you willing to invest to insure your ability to maintain your livelihood without the fear of further cuts and without the continued encroachment of sales representatives doing your job? Currently, we have a committee made up of dedicated professionals who are happy to continue working on these projects. But we need more. It is time for us to expand this effort, with the addition of a few key members, to develop one or more subcommittees to focus on each task; on licensure and beginning dialogue with other carriers. If you or anyone you know is willing to join this effort, please contact us.
Our goals cannot be reached without your commitments of time and money. So, I ask again; what are you willing to invest to insure your ability to maintain your livelihood without the fear of further cuts and without the continued encroachment of sales representatives doing your job? Have you read our article in the O&P Almanac? We made an impact with national implications by partnering with a giant. Let's keep up the momentum to propel our profession forward. If we don't continue this push, to change the landscape of our playing field, the cuts and encroachments will continue. If the actions of Medicare are any indication of where the commercial carriers are headed then we should be worried. Medicare intent is to expand their current efforts on prosthetics and add audits to orthotics by developing a statistical analysis program to identify practices that are [in their eyes] over utilizing certain codes. Stand with us to protect our interests and our patients care. mailto:[email protected]
